End Of Grade Test

The EOGs are fast approaching. They will be given the week of May 10th. Below you will find a list of websites to help your child review questions similar to those find on the EOGs. If you would like a hard copy of questions please send in a note and I will get materials from the office. Please talk to your child about taking their time, working out problems on paper, checking over answers for reasonableness, and thinking through those that may seem challenging. It is a state law that those students who do not pass the test the first time will be required to retake the test.

Homework

Homework will be given out Monday (due Wednesday), Wednesday (due Friday), Friday (due next Monday), next Monday (due next Wednesday), and next Wednesday (due next Friday).

Make sure to ask your child questions as they read nightly. Vary your questioning to include why questions and what do you think will happen next kinds of questions.

Tardiness/Absenteeism

Please make sure your child arrives at school on time. Even when they arrive 5 or 10 minutes late can risk them missing valuable learning opportunities. School starts at 8am.

End of Year Trips

4th and 5th graders attending end of year trips should have turned in permission slips and all money now. If you forgot to send in forms or payment please do this ASAP. We are finalizing our numbers Wednesday.

The third grade information packets for their end of year trip will go home this week.

Volunteering

Do you have a free moment before, during or after school to help with last minute tutoring. Please contact Mrs. Miller. Every little bit will help.

Report Cards

Today report cards went home. Please remember that every 3 tardies is an absence. The total number of days your child is absent includes the tardies if they are more than 3. This is denoted in parenthesis. We really focused on numeration this grading period and I am very proud of the hard work the students put in to increase their math skills. I am still available for conferences before school and after school the week of November 30^th. If you need a phone conference instead, that is also an option.

Volunteers Needed

Come in and help out with centers, recess, lunch or writer’s workshop. I have a very open door policy.

Make sure to sign that your child is reading nightly, and is completing all homework. Name & date should be on all work.

REMINDER

Every 3 tardies is an absence. A child may be retained if they accumulate 10 absences. We will be selling hotdogs and chips for $1.50 on Oct 8, 2009 @ lunch time. Your money needs to be in by this Friday, Oct.2, 2009. If you have any questions see your room parent or Ms. Breezy. All parent volunteers are greatly appreciated. The class has been busy working on their math we are studying place value, and completing wide range achievement test (WRAT) .

The class has been busy working on their community building skills. They have come up with class, center, and other rules/ procedures to make the class run smoother this year.

Classroom Rules and Procedures

Class Mascot

The class voted and decided they wanted to be the wolves because wolves are prideful, loyal and do not give up.

Class Schedule (Tentative- Subject to change)

· 8:00 Math problem of the day

· 8:30 Centers

· 9:40 Self Selected Reading

· 10:00 Writer’s Workshop

· 11:10 Recess

· 11:40 Lunch

· 12:15 Read a loud/Class meeting

· 1:00 Centers

· 2:00 Special classes (T-art, W-Music, TH-P.E., F-drama)

Dance is Monday at 11 and recess on Monday only is at 12:15.

The First Day of School

Today was an exciting day in Mrs. Miller's class. The students learned about their classmates in a game called "Find Someone Who.."We began to develop class rules based on what the students saw as important elements to have a great year. Ms. Lisa reviewed different mediums in art and reminded the students how to sign their drama/art contract using their body. The day seemed to fly by as we came up with class jobs and started to read "Who Moved My Cheese."

Students were given their agendas and a parent pack that contained important forms for the parents to sign. The students also received a Multiple Intelligence survey to complete with their parents.

Welcome back and I know we are going to have a wonderful year.

Summer Letter

Summer letter 2009
Our first Children’s Theater performance will be Beauty and the Beast. Your child will need to read a version of Beauty and the Beast that can be found at the library before school starts August 17th.
During the summer students can maintain their learned skills by doing activities daily. It does not require hours of work. It should be activities that fit into your family’s summer plans. Below I have given you a list of suggested activities and sites.

We will have an activity fee next year. It will be $15.00 per month or $120 for the school year. This will cover snacks, supplies, agenda, and field trips (out of town field trips may require additional money based on location and gas).
